DarkUFO Character Cup: R1, Matchups 1 & 2

Here we go folks, it's the first day of competition! Who will win our first two matchups? Our first battle features a Lostie who has been in nearly every episode to date and an Other who has only popped up once so far. Our second bout features two characters who received widely different receptions to their introduction to the show. Who will you vote for and why?

Jack Shephard
A survivor of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, Jack filled a much needed leadership role among the Losties. Before the Island, Jack was a spinal surgeon. He used his medical skills to help his fellow castaways and eventually an enemy as well. He was captured by the Others and performed life-saving surgery on their leader. Determined to leave the Island, Jack made contact with the freighter, thinking it meant rescue for everyone. Jack escaped the Island and is currently a member of the Oceanic 6. He was last seen discussing a plan to return to the Island with Benjamin Linus.

Harper Stanhope
A member of the mysterious Others, Harper acts as a psychologist and therapist for her fellow Island inhabitants. She was married to Goodwin before his death, though their marriage deteriorated and he had an affair with Juliet Burke, a patient of hers. Harper confronted Juliet about the affair but little came of it. She was last seen in the jungle, where she appeared to Juliet, warning her about Daniel and Charlotte’s mission to the Tempest station.


Paulo
A talented chef and murderous jewel thief, Paulo was Nikki’s partner in crime before the crash of Oceanic Flight 815. He poisoned a wealthy television producer in order to steal his diamonds, which were lost during the crash. On the Island, Paulo spent little time interacting with anyone, and looking for the lost diamonds. He found them but chose not to tell Nikki about his discovery because he feared her desire for the diamonds would bring an end to their relationship. Nikki found out and paralyzed Paulo with a Medusa Spider. His fellow Losties, assuming he was dead, buried him alive.

Miles Straume
A relative newcomer, Miles is part of the crew of the freighter. Before coming to the Island, he seems to have used his supernatural gift for personal gain. He appears able to communicate with or at least hear the dead. It is unknown why exactly he was chosen to come to the Island, but he was sent on an early extraction mission to bring Ben Linus back to the freighter. The mission ultimately failed and he has since joined the Losties. He decided to stay on the Island when Daniel was taking people to the freighter and was last seen at the beach when the Island disappeared.
