It's a week late, but hopefully the wait has been worth it. Here is your Week 8 Fantasy Update, complete with a new points leader! It seems like the last few weeks have had someone new taking the top slot each time, but Week 8 sees a familiar name reclaiming the lead.
"Meet Kevin Johnson" was another weaker performing episode, as far as points are concerned. Be sure to check out all the information below to get the full explanation behind some of the scoring decisions for this week. If you disagree with a scoring decision or think we missed something or simply have a question for us, hit up the comment section of email your questions to LFLquestions@gmail.com.
We're now in the midst of a Mini-Hiatus, but there's no need for you to despair! There will be plenty theorizing and general conversation here at DarkUFO's site. We'll also be posting a few surveys and polls regarding potential changes for the Season 5 Fantasy League. Be sure to chime in on the conversation and make your voice heard! With no new episodes to discuss for another few weeks, we'll be busy little beavers getting feedback from you, the present and future contestants of the Lost Fantasy League.
Be sure to check it out- your input just may influence the shape and scope of the Season 5 LFL.
“Meet Kevin Johnson” (in 500 words or less)
An air of unease descends upon Camp Locke. John Boy decides to be open and honest with all those joining his faction who are good looking enough to not be red-shirts. Ben gets all creepy and begs Alex to flee to the Temple with Rousseau to guide and protect her. Rousseau doesn’t clock Ben for a change, so strange things are afoot.
On the freighter, Des and Sayid wake up to sirens blaring. Captain Gault is laying the hurt on one of his crew who tried to abandon ship. Michael- er- Kevin Johnson is ordered to clean up the mess. Sayid and Desmond confront him later in the engine room, demanding an explanation, which *whooshes* us into a mega-long flashback, in which we learn the following:
-Michael told Walt that he killed Ana-Lucia and Libby to get him back and leave the Island.
-Michael is suicidal over what he did to get Walt back and the fact that Walt won’t speak to him now that he knows his father is a murderer.
-Damon and Carlton like Mama Cass.
-Michael has kept his identity a secret to everyone except his mother since getting back.
-Michael has visions (or are they “visions”?) of Libby.
-The Others are crazy good at keeping tabs on people.
-Tom left the Island somewhere between the time he watched Jack almost kill Ben in surgery and the time he was playing football with Jack and throwing like a girl.
-Tom is gay.
-The Others claim Charles Widmore faked the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815 (with creepy photos of dug up graves and shipping receipts).
-Miles knows Michael is lying.
-Michael’s ball bouncing skills indicates he is either going uber-crazy like Jack Nicholson in “The Shining” or he’s uber-defiant of his current situation like Steve McQueen a la “The Great Escape”.
-Michael really wants to die.
-Ben is deliciously hilarious with his fake bomb.
-There are a few innocent people on the freighter, but the rest are seriously bad news.
-Ben considers Michael “one of the good guys” now.
Then we *woosh* our way back to the present, where Sayid, either foolishly or ingeniously, exposes Michael as the spy and saboteur. The jury is still out on this one.
Finally, Alex, Karl and Rousseau are trekking through the jungle and decide to take a break. It turns out to be fatal, as Karl and Rousseau are shot (seemingly dead) and Alex gives herself up, proclaiming that she is Ben’s daughter (not Ben’s son, as I mistakenly said in the video).
Cut to black, see you in a month.
There were a few tough decisions to make with this episode and, in the end, I decided it was best to err on the side of caution. As always, these rulings can be reversed if canonical information occurs this season that shows our initial ruling(s) were incorrect.
1) Alex and Karl get points for visiting the Barracks, a DHARMA location. Up to now, we had not seen them at the Barracks, so they had never received points for going there. Rousseau had already been seen there in a prior episode, so she did not grab these points.
2) Michael's suicide attempt counts for a 15 point deduction. He not only gets hurt, but he injures someone (in this case, himself). None of Michael's other suicide attempts count for deductions, because none of his other suicide attempts resulted in him getting injured.
3) Both of Michael's visions of Libby count as Island Visions. The second appearance of Libby is very clearly an Island Vision. I doubt anyone would dispute that. The tricky part was ruling on her first appearance. It could very well be that Michael is just tormented by his memories of killing Libby that she appeared in his dream, but the fact that Island Visions have come to Losties in their dreams before led me to err on the side of caution and count it as an Island Vision.
4) Before Libby's second appearance, Michael hears the Whispers. It was very quick and just after the ghostly clip of music played. Boy that Mama Cass sure gets around!
5) Michael's flashback is considered an Off-Island FB. While the events of his flashback take place after he came to the Island, all of his actions and experiences take place off the Island. Even though we saw a clip of Ben on the Island, it is not a Montage FB. The shot of Ben was to show his side of the conversation. Had Michael been on the Island, it would be different.
6) For now, we are considering Rousseau to be injured, but Karl to be dead. Rousseau seemed to confirm that he was dead before she got shot herself. The jury is still out on Rousseau, but we feel that she is more likely to still be alive. The absence of the exit wound makes me think her injury isn't a lethal one (at least not immediately). We'll have to wait and see what happens after the Mini-Hiatus to see what kind of confirmation we get either way on this matter.
"Meet Kevin Johnson" doled out more points than "Ji Yeon", but not by much. This could have been a huge week for Michael, but his penchant for getting himself hurt really took away from his performance. Just as Desmond, Jin and Sun did, Michael failed to break into triple digits for his episode total.
Is this a letdown? To us Michael holders it may be. The rest of you probably benefited by this though. Certainly, a Michael-centric episode was bad news for many of you, especially considering the extended nature of the flashback. Those injury deductions against Michael probably helped you either stay relatively close in points to those with Michael. Our leaders were certainly comforted by the deductions, as it made it harder for us Michael holders to creep up and challenge them for the points lead.
Aside from Michael, it was a pretty decent episode, with a variety of points being slung about, including the death of our first League character, Karl.

Supposedly, the title of episode 9 will be "The Shape of Things to Come". It's a pretty ominous-sounding title and I have literally no idea what is going to happen. Obviously though, the title is a clue.
I think the episode will literally show us the shape of things to come on Lost. Episode 9 will likely set the tone for the rest of Season 4 and give us a glimpse of what to expect in Seasons 5 and 6. We'll see what life will be like for those Lostaways who remain on the Island and we'll begin to understand why some of the Oceanic 6 feel it is important to go back.
But we'll just have to wait until the end of April for all of that.
Until then, be sure to keep coming back to DarkUFO's site, because we'll be discussing potential changes to the Lost Fantasy League for Season 5. So far we feel that the Season 4 League has been a success, with only a few bumps in the road. But, we want to know what you all think!
Later this week and through the rest of the Mini-Hiatus, you can vote in polls and surveys designed to give us feedback. You can also send your suggestions directly to us via the comment section or by emailing me at LFLquestions@gmail.com.
Until then, enjoy your Mini-Hiatus as best you can! :-)
