Introduction Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls- we have reached the midpoint of Season 4! "Ji Yeon" was the 7th out of 13 episodes we are getting this year. But we're not in the homestretch yet. That will come after the mini-hiatus when we plunge ahead into the last 5 episodes of the season and to our eventual LFL Champion.
So what happened this week? Well, as with "The Constant," this beautiful episode was kind of lacking in the points department. The outcome wasn't as brutal, but it still wasn't very pretty for many of you. A limited number of League characters really held teams back this week and we may be in for more of the same next week. We'll just have to see.
Having taken last week off, I am back with another insufferable video of myself yakking at you, so watch at your own risk :-P It's actually a breezy 10 minutes long, so kill some time and watch me go over the stats. Or just listen while you read. Read the content and voice your opinions, theories, arguments and praises in the oft-used comments section. Email your questions to LFLquestions@gmail.com.
Just one last thing- during the mini-hiatus DarkUFO and myself will be posting discussions and polls to try and get a feel for changes that can be made to make the Season 5 LFL better than this, its virgin run. So even though Lost will be taking a break, we won't be! Be sure to check out our ideas and the suggestions people may come up with for the future of the LFL.
“Ji Yeon” (in 500 words or less) Sun doesn’t trust the Freighter Four but Jin wants to talk about baby names. Sun asks Faraday what the deal is and he says he can’t make any promises. With an uncertain rescue at stake and a clever planting of doubt about Juliet’s honesty coming from Kate, Sun decides to defect to Camp Locke.
When Juliet finds out about Sun’s plan, she does what she can to stop the Kwons from leaving camp. This includes warning her over and over to an annoying extent about what happens to pregnant women on the Island and finally exposing Sun’s secret past affair with Jae Lee to Jin. Sun totally b*tch slaps Juliet to many cheers from the audience. Jin gets really mad and storms off. Looks like we’re back to Season 1 “bitter about being duped” Jin.
Jin goes fishing with Bernard in an awkward but very touching scene. Jin realizes that the past no longer matters and that the man he has become is most important. He goes back to camp, makes dinner and completely forgives Sun of her most terrible secret. It’s touching and beautiful and more significant than the “quadrangle” will ever amount to. Suck on that Jater, Skaters, Jackets, etc.
On the freighter, Frank feels bad for Desmond and Sayid and brings them cold canned lima beans. Gee, thanks Frank. The ship’s captain meets with Des and Sayid, showing them a black box from the faked wreckage of Flight 815. The captain is particularly interested in how Ben managed to acquire 324 dead bodies with which to fill said plane. Des and Sayid are given a new room complete with cockroaches and a fresh bloodstain on the wall. The ship’s janitor, Kevin Johnson is called over to clean it up. Kevin introduces himself to the new tenants, but they already know each other. See, Kevin Johnson is actually Michael Dawson. No sign of Taller Ghost Walt though.
Jin has flashbacks showing a pretty meaningless story of him doing a job for Mr. Paik. He’s been sent to deliver a panda bear to the grandfather of a powerful Chinese Ambassador to earn points and try to get a foot in the door to doing business in China. However, it’s innovative in that it is transposed with a Sun flashforward of her going into labor and delivering her baby at the same hospital, only in the future. It looks like Jin is trying to make it to his own child’s birth, but it’s all an elaborate fake out. Razzle dazzle!
Hurley shows up in Korea and goes with Sun to Jin’s gravesite. It’s all very sad and tragic with Sun breaking down and saying she misses him with her baby in her arms. Then we notice that Jin’s grave lists his date of death as Sept. 22, 2004- the same day 815 crashed. Jin never got back, meaning he is either still on the Island or he died trying to leave the Island with Sun. Razzle dazzle indeed.
There really weren't any important rulings this week. "Ji Yeon" was a very easy episode to score, making it nice and headache-free week for Dar and I. Nevertheles, here are a few minor ruling that we made that you may have been pondering.
1) Giving birth does not count as an injury. I mean, come one! It's bringing life into the world! How could we possibly call that an injury?
2) Jin does not lose points over his tombstone. While it looked pretty convincing, we didn't actually see Jin die. And there's also the issue of his death date. Sept. 22, 2004? Sounds fishy to me.
3) No new person points for Sayid and Desmond. They were brought to the freighter and they both knew or knew of Michael before meeting him on the boat.
After a week of normalcy, we get shot right back down into the hole, though not as far down as with "The Constant." "Ji Yeon" was an overall light episode. Most of the points actually came via the flashback and flashforward sequences. Otherwise it was mostly just characters showing up for their 5 appearance points.
Group 1 performed unusually low with the absence of Locke's camp and Groups 5, 6 & 7 were all Lost Fantasy Losers. It's beginning to seem very clear that some of the characters in these lower groups are not going to appear this season, if ever again. Bernard saved the day for Group 4, bringing the total League character tally to an even ten this week. That's still not very good though.
Here is this week's detailed points breakdown:

There was only one Fantasy Genius of the Week this week, so congratulations to RedStarRevolution! As I mentioned in the video, RedStar was the only contestant to hit the triple digits with 105 total points. Here is the winning team:
RedStarRevolution: Jack, Hurley, Sun, Bernard, Richard, Ms. Hawking, Mr. Paik
Who will be Fantasy Genius of the Week next week? Well, if you have Michael on your team, it could be you! It's looking very likely that Week 8 will be a big one for the returning castaway.
I'm not pulling any punches this time. In fact, I'm downright jubilant! It has been known for ages that Michael was returning to the show, and now that he's back, he's being immediately treated to his own episode! How do I know this you might ask? Try this on for size- the episode is called "Meet Kevin Johnson".
Now unless the producers and writers are pulling off one of the most amazing feats of misdirection in television history, this will be a Michael episode. This means that we're going to be seeing a good deal of freighter time action, which could result in a standoff between Desmond, Michael and Sayid for points supremacy. My natural instinct is to give the edge to Micheal. He'll score centricity and some kind of flash points (hopefully).
This means that the 7% of us who picked Michael for our team will have a chance to shine and boast of our selection. The only way this is going to backfire is if Michael is tarred and feathered by his fellow castaways and former friends. I doubt they'll be too thrilled to see a murderer and a traitor again, but he may be working in their best interests. Hopefully Michael is not the much publicized death, because that would totally suck.
Who knows what other action we'll see. This may be the start of converging the three camps (Jack Pack, Camp Locke and the Freighter), which will serve to heighten tensions going into this brief hiatus. Wouldn't it figure that things continue to get more interesting as we head into a break?
Check back next week to see how your team performed in "Meet Kevin Johnson".
