Introduction
The second half of our Hiatus Season starts off with a bit of a whimper. When you add up the total positive and negative points for each character each week, you get the episode's total score. Every week has seen a lower score than the previous one, and this week is no different.
When all was said and done, "The Greater Good" set a record low for total episode score for League characters, coming in with only +20 points. Granted, it was a Season 1 episode, so about half our League characters were going to be MIA.
A low score for the whole episode however is not indicative of low scores all around. This episode saw lots of action and several characters scored rather well, while others suffered sizable losses.

"The Greater Good" (in 500 words or less)
Sayid! Sayid! Sayid! That’s about all you need to know for this episode.
We begin with Shannon staring blankly at her step-brothers corpse. Clearly, she is shell shocked and not really in the mood to do anything but sulk. Having recently been all up on Shannon, Sayid is compelled to help her through this rough time.
Boone’s funeral is somber and goes completely awry when Locke shows up to apologize. Note to Jungle John: Next time you dumped a seriously injured person’s body into the doc’s lap, lie about their injuries and proceed to run away, at least wash their blood out of your shirt before crashing the funeral.
Jack really wants to rip Locke a new one but is ripping of said new one is put on hold after his lack of blood catches up to him. Kate drugs him to make him get some sleep, which is a good idea.
Sayid tries to figure out if Boone’s death was an accident, so he and Locke go on a hike to the plane. Sayid believes Locke’s story about Boone’s injuries, but doesn’t trust old baldy as far as he can throw him. He grills Locke about the Hatch, but Locke cleverly avoids the topic by blowing Sayid’s mind with the revelation that just a few episodes prior he sabotaged Sayid’s equipment and whacked him over the head with a stick.
This brings out the stabby side of Sayid, who demands to know why Locke would do such a thing. Locke’s retorts by asking Sayid if a 16-year old recording stating “it killed them all” is a place that everyone should be led to.
The irony gods are rolling on the floor at this point for two reasons- First, Locke and Sayid are unknowingly standing on top of a hatch (The Pearl) while discussing hatches. Second, in Season 3 nearly everyone WOULD be led to that 16-year old recording stating “it killed them all.”
Shannon is having generally stabby feelings towards Locke, but realizes that her petite frame would do poorly against Jungle John in a knife fight. The crafty little mink thusly swipes the gun case key from the doc’s neck while he’s counting sheep. Sayid tackles her before she can get a clear shot off, only grazing Jungle John’s scalp. She still won’t hear reason (I mean, murder is SO 2003!) and stomps off mad at her new quasi-boyfriend.
The B-plot involves Charlie trying to take care of Turnip Head while Claire rests up. Hmm, both Shephard kin needing rest on the same day- what are the odds? Charlie sucks at parenting but we discover that Sawyer’s voice solves Aaron’s fussiness.
The flashbacks show us what Sayid was up to before getting on Flight 815- infiltrating a terror cell for two nations’ governments and lying to an old friend in exchange for the 411 on an old flame, who he seems to have forgotten about now that he’s infiltrated Shannon’s short shorts.

1. Jack’s attack on Locke at Boone’s funeral qualifies as an injury to Locke. Jack loses five points for injuring Locke, while Locke loses ten points for getting hurt. Even though Jack never throws any punches, he tackles Locke to the ground. We have a new policy on injuries and it’s fairly strict-
From now on, any aggressive and/or confrontational behavior that involves physical contact will be deemed an injury. If the intent to injure or cause physical discomfort exists, then the situation will be considered an injury.
Physical altercations that are meant to help someone, such as Kate drugging Jack so he can get some sleep and Sayid tackling Shannon in order to protect Locke, are exempted from injury deductions. DarkUFO and I will have the final say on what physical altercations will and will not incur deductions, but it will most likely be fairly obvious.
2. None of the situations where Jack gets dizzy and falls over count as injuries. On the beach and in the jungle he gets dizzy due to having recently given a sizeable amount of blood to Boone while trying to save him. This is a natural biological reaction to his low blood count, so he is not penalized.
Neither Jack nor Kate are penalized when she drugs him. Her intent was to help him get some rest after running himself ragged trying to save Boone. Had Kate drugged him and stolen the guns, it would have been an injury.
3. Sayid’s “discovery” of the listening device inside the smoke detector does not count for discovery points. The device was not significant enough to merit points, as it never came up again. Also, Sayid was tipped off by the agents that the terror cell was being monitored.
4. Sayid does not get points for meeting the agents. They never materialized again during the series and are not considered important enough to merit new character points. Besides, they captured Sayid and made themselves known to him.
5. Locke confesses to Sayid that he injured him back during the episode “The Moth,” while trying to triangulate the source of the radio transmission. Locke does not lose points in THIS episode for that injury. Had we watched “The Moth,” we would have gone back and deducted points from Locke for that episode. Because we haven’t seen it, Locke benefits from our retroactive points loophole.
6. Sayid gets points for encountering the Numbers. In the scene where he is picked up by the terror cell leader and Essam, Sayid is seen walking out a building with the number 815 on the door. We initially thought the numbers went by too quickly as we only saw them in Lost-Media still frames. But, upon further reviews, the numbers were large enough and clear enough to be seen on my tiny TV screen. They only show up quickly, but they are clearly visible if you know where to look.
7. No one gets points for visiting DHARMA stations as we did not know DHARMA existed in Season 1. We’re watching these hiatus episodes as if for the first time, remember? Thusly, we had no idea about DHARMA and the Losties were not aware of what they were standing on (The Pearl).

While Locke may have faltered this week, you can expect him to bounce back in Week 6. DarkUFO's virtual hat has selected another Season 1 episode for us, so saddle up and get ready for "Deus Ex Machina."This Locke-centric episode takes us back to Boone's fatal accident and further heightened the mysterious Hatch. Those of you with Locke on your roster can rejoice in knowing that he'll come out with a lot of points, but what will "Deus Ex" hold for the rest of our League characters?

You can also expect to see some format changes to the video updates. Hopefully these changes will reduce the run time (thereby shrinking the file size) and spare you from watching anything that's too insufferably long.
