Friends Celebrate Kanu Nwakwo

Former Nigerian international, Kanu Nwankwo, is receiving the loudest ovation as he plans to quit active international football.

The sportsman who has won many laurels in his professional career is being hosted by friends today in Lagos.

The dinner, which will come after a testimonial match is planned by friends, fans and colleagues of this football star with a heart of gold ( I love what he is doing through his Kanu heart foundation) .

People from all walks of life are expected to grace the event.

Lil Wayne Makes history on forbes under 30 list

Rapper Lil wayne made history as the only rapper apart from 2pac to have a number one album while in prison. The rapper who made $15 million and is  considered as one of the richest rappers around is second to last on the list.

10th place raking in $15 million although she just failed to make the cut for the Celebrity 100 list which measures a mix of wealth and fame.

She earned $29 million between May 2010 and May 2011 thanks to her tour, album sales and endorsement deals .

Others who made the Forbes list included LeBron James who came in 3rd with $48 million, Serena Williams who was last on the list with $12 million which is great considering she’s been out for most of last year with the foot injury, surgery and resulting embolism, Dwight Howard whose $28 million nabbed him the 11th spot, Dwayne Wade’s $26 million scored him 12th place and Carmello Anthonycame in 13th with $25 million.

Blatter returns unopposed as FIFA president

Steep Blatter has been reelected as World football governing body, FIFA's president for the 4th time.

The 75-year-old Swiss was the only candidate in Wednesday's (June 1st) election, with the English and Scottish Football Associations failing to delay the vote.

They wanted a postponement amid allegations of corruption within Fifa, but were only supported by 17 of the member associations.

Blatter won re-election with 186 votes from the 203 member associations and he will be in charge until 2015.

Shaquille O’Neal Announces Retirement

Basketball star and one time movie star Shaquille O’Neal  has announced that he is retiring.

.The former LSU star, 39, announced his intentions via Twitter with this message:

"We did it. 19 years baby. I want to thank you very much. That’s why I’m telling YOU first. I’m about to retire. Love you. Talk to you soon.”

O’Neal won three NBA crowns with the Lakers and another with the Heat.
He finishes seventh on the scoring list with 28,596 points and 13th in rebounds with 13,099.


Maybe he will revive his once upon a time movie career.

Soccer Team signs 1 year old to a Professional Contract

See this is exactly the reason that soccer refuses to catch on in the US, here we like sports that 1 year olds can't master.

Well it turns out the contract and the press conference were just a big publicity stunt held by the Dutch club VVV-Venlo. The contract is officially being classified as a "symbolic" one.

Well who is this 1 year old anyway? His name is Baerke van der Meij and apparently he has a hit youtube video where he is kicking balls into his toy chest.

Jay Cutler pops the question

So things appear to be going well with him and reality star Kristin Cavallari.

People is reporting that "He surprised her with a quick trip to Cabo to ask her to marry him."

Cavallari, 24, who also appeared on The Hills, and Cutler, 27, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, have been dating since last fall.

Lenny Dykstra bailed out by Charlie Sheen

Lenny spent almost a week in jail on $150,000 bond but Sheen came to the rescue posting the $22,500 necessary to bail him out. What a pal!

Adefemi’s body arrives today, burial on Thursday

The remains of Super Eagles’ defender Olubayo Adefemi would be flown into the country tonight. It would arrive aboard Alitalia Airline flight from Rome at about 8pm.

Family members of the deceased and top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation are among persons expected to receive the body, which would then be taken to a morgue in Yaba, Lagos.

Randy Couture: This is my last fight

In many ways, April 30 should make a fitting end for Randy Couture’s career.

Couture, one of the great competitors in the sport’s history, has said his final fight will be at the biggest live event the company has ever produced, UFC 129 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Lenny Dykstra is looking for naked massaging housekeeper!

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the LAPD is investigating Dykstra for lewd conduct ... stemming from allegations made by a 47-year-old woman who claims she answered a Craigslist ad to be Lenny's housekeeper earlier this month.

The woman told police ... when she arrived to the home, Dykstra explained that she wouldn't just have to clean the home, she would also be required to give him massages as well.

In a recent interview with NME Gaga calls the allegations that she ripped of Madonna's Express Yourself for her new track Born This Way, retarded.

Her exact response was: "I'm a songwriter. I've written loads of music. Why would I try to put out a song and think I'm getting one over on everybody? That's retarded."

Surely that has outraged this group. But where is the outrage? A few days after Kobe gets fined by the NBA in large part because of the outrage of the LGBT community. A community by the way that is very supportive of Lady Gaga. Where is the LGBT community on this? They should call for her to clear the air on this maybe make a stupid video like Kobe had to do.

I am hoping that the reaction is just delayed. I personally think that both of them should be able to say what they want. But if you are going to jump all over Kobe for insensitive remarks be consistent and hold Gaga accountable.

MLB prospect dies at 18

NIGUA, Dominican Republic -- Washington Nationals prospect Yewri Guillen was laid to rest Saturday while the team tried to figure out how the 18-year-old shortstop contracted the bacterial meningitis that killed him.

Guillen was buried in a Nigua cemetery near the small home he shared with his father and two sisters. The Lerners, owners of the Nationals, said they would pay for the funeral and Nationals players donated money to help Guillen's family.

The Lakers to work with GLAAD

How Gay!!!

The team and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced a working relationship on Friday, the same day Bryant apologized again.

NBA commissioner David Stern says he was comfortable with his punishment of Lakers guard Kobe Bryant for using a slur on the bench during a game. Plus, Stern says the finances they shared with the players show that some teams are losing money.

"What happened in Tuesday night's game is not representative of what the Lakers stand for," Lakers spokesman John Black said. "We want to reaffirm our commitment to all our fans and our appreciation for the support we receive from all segments of society.

Peyton Manning becomes a father

Peyton Manning, 35, and his notoriously private wife, Ashley, had kept the pregnancy a secret.

She gave birth to a girl and a boy, Mosley Thompson and Marshall Williams, March 31 in Indianapolis.

The couple has been together for 10 years, but these are their first children.

After an angry day in court the jury gets to decide the fate of Mr. Bonds.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The eight women and four men sat in the jury box for more than 4 1/2 hours, listening to angry arguments from federal prosecutors and Barry Bonds' attorneys at the end of a 12-day trial that exposed the dark world of baseball's Steroids Era.

Now, Bonds' fate is up to them.

After listening to tawdry accusations of drug use, theft and body parts that grew (Bonds' head) and shrank (his testicles), the 12-member panel gets to decide whether the home run king will become a convicted felon.

Duke lacrosse accuser again charged with assaulting boyfriend

DURHAM, N.C. — For the second time in 14 months, the Durham woman who falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape has been charged with assaulting a man with whom she was living.

Crystal Mangum, 32, was charged Sunday with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. A judge set a $300,000 bond for her on Monday.

Police said Mangum stabbed Reginald Daye, 46, in the torso with a kitchen knife during a dispute at 3507 Century Oaks Drive early Sunday.

Daye was taken to Duke University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, and Mangum was arrested in a nearby apartment.
