Another Nigerian celebrity cheated death again by surviving a car crash.

Nollywood actress and Globacom ambassador Uche Jombo narrowly escaped death yesterday. Reports  have it that she was driving around 12 yesterday when her car (a Toyota fj cruiser) hit another car head-on along the Lekki/Chevron area of Lagos. Thankfully no life was lost.

The actress who is said to have been in shock but went to the hospital tweeted this morning:

"Thank U lord 4 d gift of life! Only U lord did this! Thank U my rock!"

Yes oh! Thank God for averting another death. When you experience things like this, you are humbled by the knowledge that 'Life is indeed a gift'.

The movie producer and comedian were on their way to Owerri some days ago for a function when their car somersaulted a few times and crashed.

The story has it that the comedian /actor – was traveling from Lagos to Abia together with producer Kingsley Ogoro when the car driven by Okey summersaulted three times. Even though the car was turned into a wreck, Okey and Kingsley managed to survive.

    The suspected  kidnapper, Peter Sunday , was alleged to have  kidnapped Wasilat Habeeb, a pupil of Nigeria Navy Primary School, Ajegunle  at their house at 1, Oyewole street, Ijora-Oloye Apapa.
The incident happened  in the night at about 8.p.m.
While he was trying to escape with Wasilat, a resident who suspected his movement with the girl, stopped and asked him where he was going with her and whether he was the girl’s father.
Sunday told the man that she was his brother’s  daughter. He added that they were going to meet her father.

The shocked girl immediately told Sunday in the presence of the officious bystander that he was not her uncle, as he claimed.
She also told the man that Sunday came to their house to take her away.
The man raised an alarm that attracted other neighbours. They held him and took him to Oba Fatai Aromire, Ojora of Ijora Kingdom, who took him to a police station.
It was at the station that Sunday told the police that he was not living in the area as he earlier claimed.
He said that he stays at Marine Beach, but did not say what he intended to do with the girl.
The father of the victim, Habeeb, told P.M. NEWS that he was still shocked at what happened.
He said he got to know about it when the defendant was taken to the Oba and he was called and told what happened.
Sunday was charged to Apapa Magistrate’s Court for child theft. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court granted him bail in the sum N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter has been adjourned till 27 June 2011.

Police arrest, detain ‘miracle child-birth’ woman

EMBATTLED Precious Donatus Ogbonna, the woman who claimed to have given birth to seven babies in one year was, yesterday, detained by the police in Owerri, Imo State.

Sources told Vanguard that the Police stormed the house of the ‘miracle babies’ woman at Irete, Owerri, Monday evening and took her away to the State Police CID, opposite Government House, Owerri, for interrogation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Imo State Command, Mr. Linus Nwaiwu, confirmed the arrest to Vanguard saying the woman was invited for questioning.
Mrs. Ogbonna had earlier told Vanguard that her husband had abandoned their home and disclaimed the paternity of the babies.
She said: “He has not come home. He abandoned me and claims that he is not the father of the babies but I know only DNA test can convince him and bring him back.”
Mr. Ogbonna has been avoiding the press even when Vanguard was in Owerri to hear his side of the story.
A close friend of the controversial woman, Mrs. Evan-Ibeh Florence, who earlier hinted Vanguard of Mrs Ogbonna’s arrest said that she was instrumental to her friend’s visit to Lagos some weeks back which marked the beginning of her ordeal.
Assistance from Nigerians
She said she did not know that bringing her to the public glare through the press would create problem for her friend, adding: “I never knew it would turn out this way for her, all I wanted was to get assistance from good spirited Nigerians for her through the press.”
At press time, Mrs. Ogbonna was still in detention at the state CID, Owerri, and all attempts to reach her on phone proved abortive.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ibe told Vanguard that a DNA test has already been conducted and that the result was being awaited. She said that a popular TV presenter in Lagos was instrumental to carrying out the test, adding that the result would be ready soon to vindicate her friend.
Mrs. Ibe said: “I just hope the result comes soon to prove her story because I know she couldn’t have stolen the babies. They did the test some weeks ago and we are still expecting the result from South Africa.
“They did it for six babies about three weeks ago, the seventh baby was done recently because they did not bring along the birth certificate with them initially.”

He said: "There are rumours making the rounds that I had impregnated a lady from Uromi and that I was going marry her. I like to state that it is all rumours. We shall not be deterred in our resolve to institute good governance in Edo State."

Jackass Star Ryan Dunn Killed in Car Crash

Ryan Dunn, famous for his fearless off-the-wall stunts on MTV's Jackass, died in a car crash Monday morning in West Goshen Township, Pa. He was 34.

was with an unidentified passenger, who also died in the accident, police confirm to PEOPLE. It is unknown who was driving.

The car caught on fire, and a tow truck was later sent to the scene to pick up the wreckage.

Costar Bam Margera's mother broke the news to Philadelphia rock station WMMR 93.3.

“We are devastated by the tragic loss of Ryan Dunn – a beloved member of the MTV family for more than a decade," Van Toffler, President of MTV Networks Music/Films Group, said in a statement.

"He made us all laugh and had the tireless enthusiastic approach to life of your favorite middle school friend," the statement continued. "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Ryan’s family and friends. The Jackass brotherhood will never be the same.”

By Monday morning, Dunn's name was trending on Twitter, and celebs and fans alike were mourning the loss of the veteran daredevil, who earned laughs for the antics he pulled off with Margera, Steve-O and the rest of the Jackass crew – such as a famous golf cart crash in Jackass: The Movie.

First Man to be Totally Cured of HIV AIDS!

 
The story of the man scientists call the "Berlin patient" is so remarkable and has generated so much excitement among the HIV advocacy community.
Timothy Ray Brown suffered from both leukemia and HIV when he received a bone marrow stem cell transplant in Berlin, Germany in 2007. The transplant came from a man who was immune to HIV, which scientists say

about 1 percent of Caucasians are. (According to San Francisco's CBS affiliate, the trait may be passed down from ancestors who became immune to the plague centuries ago. This Wired story says it was more likely passed down from people who became immune to a smallpox-like disease.)

What happened next has stunned the dozens of scientists who are closely monitoring Brown: His HIV allegedly went away.

"He has no replicating virus and he isn't taking any medication. And he will now probably never have any problems with HIV," his doctor Gero Huetter told Reuters. Brown now lives in the Bay Area, and suffers from some mild neurological difficulties after the operation. "It makes me very happy," he says of the incredible cure.

The development of anti-retroviral drugs in the 1990s was the first sign of hope in the epidemic, transforming the disease from a sudden killer to a more manageable illness that could be lived with for decades. But still, the miraculous cocktail of drugs is expensive, costing $13 billion a year in developing countries alone, according to Reuters. That figure is expected to triple in 20 years--raising the worry that more sick people will not be able to afford treatment.

Although Brown's story is remarkable, scientists were quick to point out that bone marrow transplants can be fatal, and there's no way Brown's treatment could be applied to the 33.3 million people around the world living with HIV. The discovery does encourage "cure research," according to Dr. Jay Levy, who co-discovered HIV thirty years ago, something that many people did not even think was possible years ago.

Horror as woman sets mate and 3 kids ablaze

Thick dark cloud pervaded the sleepy community of Achara-Unuhu in Abakaliki Local Government area of Ebonyi State Monday following the death of a nursing mother with three of her children in a strange fire outbreak that gutted their residence while they were asleep. The incident, which


the deceased’s co-wife is said to be a suspect, also consumed all domestic animals within the compound. Only the victim, Mrs. Chinyere Ogbonna Nwaokpuru, and her suckling baby were said to have died instantly in the inferno, while her two other kids who were rushed to the hospital following serious injuries they sustained, died shortly after. But for the timely intervention of security personnel, the unfortunate development nearly culminated in a communal feud between Izzi and Ezza people, as the victim was said to be from a neighbouring Ezza but married as second wife to an Achara-Unuhu man of Izzi clan. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr John Eluu, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), confirmed the incident and said the command would ensure that whoever that is responsible for the incident is apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law. Checks revealed that the victim and her three kids had gone to bed, hale and hearty the previous night after taking their meal, but an unknown person sneaked into her room at about 4:00am and set them ablaze. The yet-to-be identified arsonist was said to have bathed the victims and their house with fuel before setting the building on fire. This made it impossible for the deceased and her children to exit their apartment when the fire was raging. The husband of the two women was said to be residing in Anambra State, but his mother living in a building next to the house where the victims were burnt, told newsmen that she heard her late daughter-in-law shout: “Jesus.” She said this made her to wake up and when she did, she saw that the door to the house was already covered in smoke. “I was in my room in the night when I heard someone shouting Jesus; I quickly rushed out to see what was happening though before then smoke has engulfed the whole place but I managed to see someone running out from the room where the deceased were lying but the person was a woman,” she said. Sources said there had been no love lost between the two wives apparently because of the inability of the senior wife, Ijeoma, to have children. Ijeoma was said to have opposed her husband when he was planning to bring in Chinyere as second wife. She could not be reached as at the time of filing this report. It was further gathered that she had been threatening to deal with the husband for taking a second wife in spite of her opposition to the plan. Nwaokpuru and the first wife are indigenes of Izzi, whereas the deceased came from Ezza and for the past three years since she got married to the family, she had witnessed no peace until her untimely death. Insider sources further disclosed that it was only three weeks ago that the traditional marriage rites were performed on the deceased even as the husband was yet to do same for the first wife. The mother-in-law told reporters that the first wife started behaving strangely after the traditional rites on the second wife and started sleeping outside the compound only to return every morning. When the police, SSS, civil defence and other related security agents in the state invaded the place and made an attempt to carry away the deceased and the infant baby, they were resisted by an angry mob from Ezza community who overpowered them and started setting ablaze all the houses in the compound and even threatened to kill some of the journalists who attempted taking the photograph of the scene. Reacting to the incident, the Coordinator of Abakaliki Development Centre, Mrs. Franca Okpo, said she was still asleep when one of her aides called to alert her of the tragedy. Okpo added that she immediately arrived the scene to see both members of Ezza and Izzi communities milling over the place and had to alert the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Izzi divisional police command who sent his men to avert skirmishes. GTB Boss Tayo Aderinokun is dead

Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Tayo Aderinokun is dead.  He passed away today (14th jun 2011) in a London  hospital.

The unassuming gentleman who started his career at CBN calabar (where he underwent his NYSC) led the bank to  become the 1st Sub-Saharan African bank to be listed on the LSE(London Stock exchange).

May his soul rest in peace.

Na Wah Ohh!!! Woman delivers seven babies in 11 months

IN a strange manner, a woman has delivered a set of  seven babies within a space of 11 months, three males and four females.
The woman, Mrs Precious Donatus who lives in Aguda, Suru-lere, Lagos, gave birth to her first child in August, 2009, after 11 years of childlessness but the baby died five days later.

Mrs Precious conceived and delivered the seven babies within intervals of one month . When Saturday Vanguard visited the home of the family, the husband Mr Donatus Ogbonna, a business man from Imo State  was at home.

He told Saturday Vanguard that at birth of the first baby, they  did not know that would be the beginning of her journey to delivering seven babies.
Narrating her story, Mrs Precious told Saturday Vanguard that the first baby died after five days of birth adding that “immediately after putting to bed the first baby, the doctor told me that there was another baby in my womb.”
The babies are :first baby, August 25 2009, Amarachi (died after five days); second baby, May 6, 2010 (Conqueror, female); third baby, June 3, 2010, (Chizitere, female); fourth baby, August 16, 2010 (Ekpereamaka, male); fifth baby, September 19, 2010, (Fineseed Angel, female); sixth baby, October 19, 2010 (Evidence, female); seventh baby, January 13, 2011,( Flourish, male), eight baby, April 2, 2011, (Ebenezer, male)
