Headline Makers Of 2010

2010 may have come and gone, but some people had an amazing year. They made money, some made history while some had relentless haters ( like the late Notorious B.I.G will say more money , more problems) but one thing these people have  in common is that 2010 was definitely their year. Here is my list of money and headline makers of the year.

15)Omoni Oboli

This year was indeed a spendid  one for this Delta State born, University of Benin graduate. She won numerous awards  both home and abroad. The awards include Best actress Harlem international film festival, Best actress ,Los Angeles movie awards. She was also honoured as  the best actress by the organisers of  Best Of Nollywood awards  for her highly acclaimed performance in the movie 'Anchor Baby'.
2010 was indeed a splendid year for this very preety mother of three.
14)  Rkelly:
He was not only on the list of greatest R&B artist but was crowned R & B artist of the decade by billboard which is a big honour for any artist.
13)  Beyonce:
She may not have released any album this year but this Texas native and music mogul, Jay-Z’s better half had an amazing year. She launched her highly anticipated perfume ‘Heat’ which has been doing very well in terms of sales. She was also listed alongside Oprah, Tyler Perry , James Camron and a host of other celebrities  by  Forbes as one of the  money makers for the year 2010.

More after the jump
12)  Taylor Swift:
She won four Grammys in the year 2010 including the coveted   album of the year and was the only artist to sell one million albums within the first week of release this year.  She constantly  grabbed news headlines for her romance with actors Taylor Lautner (star of Twilight) and  Jake Gyllenhaal.  Taylor had the honour of being listed among the money makers of the year by Forbes.
For making Paper and solidifying her hold and respect in music ,this year was definitely  a good one for her.
11)  Tonto Dike:
Bad publicity, good publicity, any publicity is publicity and every  artist needs  a  heavy dose of it which is what Tonto got this year.
The negative publicity and her outburst over the very controversial movie “Secret Scandals” aside, she was one of the most sought after actresses this year .All these made 2010 an amazing year for this Nollywood tattoo loving actress.

10)  Mochedda:
She was crowned Africa’s brightest act this year by Mtv and also beat Africa’s female heavy weights to be named Channel O’s Female artist of the year.
These and a very successful album made 2010 a very good year for Mochedda.
9)  Uti Nwachucku
If you do not succeed dust yourself up and try again. This is exactly what Uti Nwachucku did. After competing and losing in the 2008 edition of Big Brother Africa, this graduate of Benson Idahosa University got another shot at fame and fortune in the 2010 edition of the show. The Big Brother All Stars Edition came with a major challenge for this Nigerian with the death of his father while in the house,  but he persevered  and at the end of the keenly contested show  was crowned the winner. Not only did he win the prize money which was doubled to $200,000, he has also scored major gigs along the way proving to critics that he is not going to be a flash in the pan.
2010 was indeed a wonderful year for Uti.
8)  Bruno Mars:
Even though he has been in the game, he became popular when he  was introduced to us through Bob’s hit song  ‘Beautiful Girls’ and since then there has been no going back  for this Canadian native. He had two chart topping songs , several billboard top ten songs and eight  Grammy nominations ( the second highest after Eminem ) for the year 2011. He definitely had a big introduction in the year 2010.

7)  Justin Bieber:
This Canadian native who is also Usher’s protégé had a very good and big year. Being recognised as the artist with the highest video hits ( over a billion to be precise) is no mean feat. He won several awards this year including America music awards’ artist of the year and also had several billboard chart topping singles. Add all these to the fact that his book .First Step 2 Forever: My Story’ has been doing very well in terms of sales then you will agree with me that this teenage sensation had a roller coaster ride this year.
6)  Mark Zuckerberg:

This year was definitely a good one for this former Harvard student and founder of the world’s most popular social network ‘Facebook’. He was named Time magazine’s Man of the Year, which made him the second youngest recipient ever. His social network keeps on growing with an estimated fifty million followers, which if it had been a country, will be bigger than most countries.
5)  Genevieve Nnaji:
This actress has shown that with determination and focus something good can come out of Nigeria’s film industry. She was recognised internationally on so many levels including her interview with world News giant CNN. She was also named the face of MUD cosmetics Nigeria. This year she was a tabloid darling not just for her work but for her alleged romance with music superstar D’banj.
The year 2010 was definitely a year where even though she was not in many movies she was still very popular and she solidified her grip as Nollywood’s leading lady.
4)  TufaceIdibia:
New artists emerge everyday but this immensely talented and humble musician has continued to remain the darling of many music lovers. Each year his fan base increases and this year was no exception. His last album may not have done too well but his new album proved to us that he is still one of Africa’s finest . His chart topping singles ‘Implication and Only me amongst others and his recognition by Mtv base Africa as Africa’s artist of the year  are  testaments to these facts.
Add these to the fact that he made major green this year then you will agree with me that 2010 was a year that Tubaba kept smiling from ear to ear.
3)  Eminem:
Apart from the fact that he had ten Grammy nominations which made him the highest nominee for next year’s awards, his album sat on billboard’s number one spot for eight weeks and he also had one of the highest selling albums of the year. All these from one of rap’s most controversial figures, this year was definitely an amazing year for Eminem.
2)  Nicki Minaj:
She was crowned the queen of Hip-hop  by both Billboard and Rolling stones magazine and also had chart topping songs this year.
Want to know when you have actually made it? When you have people hating on you for no concrete reason. Her very public feud with fellow rapper Lil Kim and controversy over her  “Assets” made her a headline darling this year.
She made money, fame and haters this year. All these made 2010 ,(good or bad) an amazing one for her.

1)      Lady Gaga:
She won Mtv Europe’s artist of the year and was also crowned Billboard’s artist of the year. She was also in the news for her public antics and weird fashion choices which made her a constant topic for discussion in both gossip and fashion columns. She understands that fashion is all about making statements and this is what she does anytime she steps out. She was also listed on Forbes list of  money makers of the year. She made history by winning eight Mtv video music awards (she was against herself in most of the categories) where she scored an unprecedented thirteen nominations .
2010 was definitely Lady Gaga’s year because she always gave us something to talk about and she was very successful musically breaking records along the way.
