We've got tons of content this week, as two hours of Lost makes for long recaps, detailed points and important points rulings. But enough stalling! Let's get to the winner!
I think it's quite fitting that someone named LOSTOBSESSED would win the Lost Fantasy League!
That's right! The winner is lostobsessed. She not only snagged Fantasy Genius of the Week honors, but also leapfrogged her way to the top of the leader board from outside the Top 20! Edging out the competition by just 10 points, lostobsessed is your champion and wins the Season 4 DVD set AND the Season 4 soundtrack.
We are left with a three-way tie for second place between mfll, Loquo and Ryan. We'll be holding a tie-breaker for these three. One will win the Season 4 DVD set and the other two will take home the Season 4 soundtrack. Our tie-breaking procedure will actually NOT be the one that was mentioned on the ODI podcast. DarkUFO came up with another clever way to resolve the issue.

“There's No Place Like Home, Parts 2 & 3” (in 1,200 words or less)
Previously on Lost- OMGWTFPOLARBEAR? The Oceanic 6 are spread out all of the Island and off-shore. There’s a bomb on the freighter, Ben’s been captured by Keamy & Co., Jack and Sawyer trudge off looking for Hurley, and Kate & Sayid are captured by the Others. All in one hour.
Jack and Sawyer reach the Orchid and find Hugo watering the plants. Hurley’s thrilled to see Sawyer but only throws a “sup, dude?” to Jack. Jack confronts Locke. Again. It’s mostly the same old give and take. Locke talks about miracles and destiny while Jack talks about getting the frack off Craphole Island.
Keamy is wondering why Widmore paid him so much money to kill everyone but Ben, but is soon left wondering who Kate is, what the Whispers are and where to shoot to bag him an Other. Kate and Ben take off, Keamy follows and engages Sayid in some sweet hand-to-hand combat that only two military types can pull off. Sadly, Sayid kinda loses until Richard Alpert shoots Keamy in the back. You know he ain’t dead though.
Ben awkwardly thanks Richard for showing up and tells Kate & Sayid that they can use the chopper to leave the Island. Kate is left stunned like a child hearing “yes” for the first time after a long series of “no’s.”
Michael obviously knows his video games because he figures out that they can freeze the battery attached to the bomb with liquid nitrogen to buy them some extra time. Instead of pulling out all those lovely wires while the battery is frozen (rendering the bomb inert) Des and Jin try to map out the wires to cut the right one. Not that I’m being picky or anything. Ah well, Lost is just a TV show after all.
Danny Boy comes back from the freighter for the next load of redshirts. He tries to convince Miles and Charlotte that they need to come with awhile, but they’re going to stay put. Miles wants to eat more contraband peanuts to piss off Rose, while Charlotte is looking for the place she was born (aka somewhere on the Island).
Ben reaches the Orchid again and he and Locke get right down to business. They give Jack the cold shoulder and won’t let him play their reindeer games. Locke tells Jack to lie to everyone once they get back to the mainland and Jack laughs. The irony gods are lapping it up. Ben and Locke go down into the Orchid while Jack, Sawyer and Hurley head back to the chopper.
Down inside the Orchid, Locke watches a DHARMA film about time traveling bunnies while Ben disregards Marvinmarkedgar Candlewickmundhalliwax’s dire warning and loads the Vault with as much metal as he possibly can. Then the elevator kicks on and Ben asks for his whoopin’ stick back.
Jack, Hurley and Sawyer reach the chopper and they take off with Kate, Sayid and Frank. They hit a snag on the way in the form of a perfectly undisturbed-by-wind leak in the fuel tank and might not make it to the freighter. Jack demands they try because he knows going back to the Island just screws them all over. They dump all the extra weight they can but it doesn’t seem to be enough. Sawyer shows some character and selflessness by whispering sweet nothings into Kate’s ear, planting a mega-smooch on her right in front of Jack and then making a multi-story jackknife into the ocean. If the writers had simply tossed all the “Triangle” baggage out of the chopper instead, I think Sawyer could have stayed.
Keamy rides the elevator down and does his creepy mush mouth half-threatening half-joking tone and calls Ben out. Locke pops up to try and bury the hatchet but Keamy would rather bury his knife into someone. Ben pops out of a locker, whacks Keamy in the head and stabs him in the throat. He doesn’t care one iota that he’s killed Keamy and everyone on the freighter.
Anywho, the chopper folk reach the freighter but Desmond (in all his semi-buttoned shirt glory) tries to stop them from landing because of, you know, the BOMB! They fuel up the chopper with just enough gas to make it back to the Island, grab Sun and Aaron and take off with Desmond reluctantly in tow. At this point, Michael sends Jin up to be with his wife a hair too late. Jin misses the chopper and Michael sees Christian Shephard. He says that Michael can go now and the freighter pulls a Dr. Arzt.
Sun wails and screams like a banshee a lot and they head for the Island. But Ben turns the Vault up to 11, hands over the leadership reins to Locke and turns the frozen donkey wheel. It banishes him to the Sahara desert and makes the Island disappear, leaving just a few ripples in the ocean. Frank flips out, the chopper runs out of gas and they crash into the water.
They all survive and get into an emergency life raft. Hurley is amazed that Locke moved the Island but Jack refuses to give him mad props for the feat (technically he’s right, because Ben moved the Island). In the middle of the night Frank spots a boat in the distance. They all shouts and draw the attention of said boat. Lots of tension mounts as the approach of the boat disturbingly mirrors the approach of the Others in Season 1. Fake out! It’s Penny and her Portuguese helpers!
Des and Penny reunite and kiss like they haven’t seen each other in years (oh, wait….). Then Jack steps in and says that she needs to help them come up with a big fat lie about what the frak happened to them over the last three and a half months. Penny gives them a raft and carts them to an island near the alleged crash site of Oceanic 815. The Oceanic 6 then proceed to row to shore and the Big Lie begins.
In the future, someone named Jeremy Bentham has convinced Jack that they all need to go back to the Island. His confrontation with Kate at the airport is revisited and goes even worse than before. Walt visits Hurley in the psych ward, Sun offers her help to Widmore, Kate gets prank calls from the Island (must have one HECK of a long distance plan!) and visits from Claire in her dreams, Sayid is still killing people and checks Hurley out of the psych ward.
Jack goes back to the funeral parlor and goes to view the occupant of the coffin. Ben pops in to say hi and that even he thinks Jack’s flying on planes in the hopes that it crashes is morbid. Ben says the Island won’t let him come alone and that everyone must return to the Island. This sets up a daunting task for Jack in season 5 as all of the Oceanic 6 either hates his guts or hasn’t seen him in ages. Jack starts to leave and Ben says they have to bring the coffin as well. And the occupant is… John Locke. Hmm.

We're doing things a little differently this week. We've got two points adjustments to get out of the way but there were many points questions that were addressed. After watching the episode 5 or 6 times, I am confident that we nailed all the points categories and these rulings will stick. Points rulings are broken down by character this time for your convenience.
POINTS ADJUSTMENTS:
There are two points adjustments for episode 4x12.
1) Jack loses an additional 5 points for causing his own injuries. He knew better than to run off into the jungle with fresh sutures, but he did it anyway. He knew what would happen so he loses the extra 5 points.
2) Desmond is given 20 points for discovering the bomb.
GENERAL:
1) Five of the Oceanic 6 were given centricity points for the episode. We felt there was enough emphasis on these characters during both the flashforwards and the on-island events to merit centricity (even though they didn’t all get two flashes).
2) No one earned points for meeting new people on Penny’s boat or for the discovery of the boat itself. Technically, Penny was out looking for Desmond and was right where she meant to be.
3) We ruled that the camp the Others were staying at is NOT the Temple. I don’t think anyone has even claimed it was, so we’re sticking to it.
4) Everyone was hurt in the chopper crash. Whether they had scrapes or not, getting tossed around and dumped into the ocean counts as an injury for the Oceanic 6 and Desmond.
JACK:
1) Jack is given First on Screen points. This was a matter of consistency with an earlier episode. Technically Kate’s car is first on screen and we know she is inside of it, but Jack was the first League character that we physically saw.
2) Jack does NOT lose points again for his bleeding sutures. He tore his sutures open in the previous episode and the bleeding merely continued. He did not do anything in this episode to cause any new injuries.
KATE:
1) Kate getting tossed down by Keamy at the chopper counts as an injury. Again, this is a matter of consistency. Alex was charged an injury deduction for roughly the same situation.
2) Kate’s dream involving Claire counts as an Island Vision. This was a judgment call. Dreams have counted as Island Visions before and this one is no different.
3) The voice Kate heard over the phone was the Whispers. I had to turn up the volume on the TV to be sure, but it was definitely the backwards-talking creepy whispers.
SAWYER:
1) Sawyer does NOT lose points for jumping out of the helicopter. He just felt like going for a dip ;-)
LOCKE:
1) Locke pulling Ben off of Keamy does not count as an injury to either of them. This ruling is consistent with Jack being pulled off of Locke in 4x01.
2) Locke receives the death deduction for this episode. His death is acknowledged by several people and he’s revealed to be in the coffin. That is enough to declare him dead.
MICHAEL:
1) Michael seeing Christian on the freighter counts as an Island Vision. Christian appeared so suddenly after the Whispers that we didn’t think it was the real Christian.
JIN:
1) Jin gets credit for appearing on-screen with the Numbers. It was very close, but he just got onscreen while the chopper was taking off. Had to go to the widescreen version to catch it.
2) Jin does not get the death deduction. Neither DarkUFO nor I are convinced of Jin’s death. We both felt that his status was left in question by the explosion, as no concrete evidence was presented to prove his death.
BEN:
1) Ben does NOT get points for watching a DHARMA video. Yes, he overheard the video, but he was working on blowing up the wall behind the Vault, so we don’t count him as watching the orientation video for the Orchid.
2) Ben DOES lose points for killing Keamy. Keamy lingered for a few minutes, but Ben’s stabbing is what did the man in.
3) Ben does NOT lose points by being injured from time traveling as he moves the Island. We saw him wake up in 4x09 and he was all disoriented, but we didn’t charge him for this because all he did was vanish in the bright light.
4) Ben DOES lose points for falling. When he was running from Keamy, he took a nasty spill and we consider it an injury.
SUN & AARON:
1) I was not able to come up with a clear screencap that distinctly shows Aaron or Sun on screen with the Numbers. They were on the chopper, but our rules state that you need to be on screen with the Numbers to get points.
MARVIN CANDLE:
1) We gave Candle points for showing up and also for visiting a DHARMA station. In the orientation video, he was making a visit to the Orchid. The last time we saw him was in a video taking place at another location, so he benefits from a technicality.
CHRISTIAN:
1) Christian does NOT lose points for the explosion. Because we consider him an Island vision, we ruled that he could not have been hurt by the explosion of the freighter.
2) Christian did NOT hear the Whispers. Thanks to my closed captioning system, I was able to discern that the Whispering stopped just before he appeared.
Two hours of Lost provided a lot of points, but not quite as many as I was expecting. I seriously thought we would hit the 1,000 mark on overall episode points, but we were held to only 670. That's still a record though.And, as you've seen, this week provided enough points to shake up our leader board a bit, so it wasn't a loss by any means. I dedicated myself to getting all the points categories right this time, so I watched the episode 5 or 6 times over the last two weeks. This means there shouldn't be any controversy over these scores. But seriously, let me know if I managed to miss something.

Well folks, it has been a fun ride indeed!I was very surprised to see that two very popular episodes (The Constant and Cabin Fever) happened to be the lowest scoring. I was also surprised to see Kate come back and edge out Jack for the most points all season. These things just go to show you that anything is possible on Lost and in the Lost Fantasy League.
I wish you all the very best in combating your Lost withdrawal as we plunge headlong into another 8 month Hiatus of Doom. I know DarkUFO will have plenty for us to do in the coming months, so I hope you all stick around!
