Introduction
Week 1 got us off to a huge start point-wise, but it was pretty much a one-man show. Despite the fact that the Freighter Four stripped our League characters from any shot at flashback/flashforward points in Week 2, the episode eclipsed "The Beginning of the End" by a good margin. That's right, "Confirmed Dead" had a higher total score. How high was this score, you ask? Try 325 points. That's 60 more than last week!
Week 2 also dealt out points a little more evenly, which helps just about everybody (as long as you had one or more of the 13 League characters making the episode). How on earth could this happen? Well, you're going to have to watch the video and read the sections below to find out just how it all went down. If you're looking for commentary on the episode, this is the wrong place to look. Check out one of the many excellent recaps and commentaries on "Confirmed Dead" in the posts below this one.
Enjoy this Week 2 Update! The video is one of the shortest to date, which is always good. If you have any questions or comments on League activity so far, or you want to dispute or comment on a particular points ruling, hit up the comment section or email us at LFLquestions@gmail.com.
“Confirmed Dead” (in 500 words or less)
We are treated to a quick flashback of chaos in the helicopter before its occupants bail out. Daniel crashes through the trees and is promptly discovered by Jack and Kate. In the previews for Season 4, Daniel had been giving off a very insidious and malevolent vibe, but it turns out he’s just a confused sissy physicist. He seems to lack self-confidence and isn’t very aware of his surroundings as Kate discovers a large box from the chopper lying in the jungle. He tries really hard to play coy about a lot of stuff but it’s clear as day that he’s all but wetting himself in fear.
Jack and Kate lend him Naomi’s phone and they go off in search of his friends via signal beacons attached to their parachutes. Sayid and Juliet have eye sex and go looking for Jack and Kate, who have been gone for a while. Jack, Kate and Daniel find Miles, who pretends to be unconscious and takes Jack by surprise by holding him at gunpoint. He tells Daniel that Naomi used “the code” alerting them all to danger on the Island by referring to the sister she doesn’t actually have.
Locke and company are headed to the Barracks but are making a quick stop at Jacob’s cabin because Taller Ghost Walt said so. Hurley lets slip that he saw the cabin elsewhere and it’s not clear if Jungle John is happy or freaked out about this. Ben also gives a non-telling bug-eyed reaction to this as well. On the way they find Charlotte and sort of take her hostage. They ingeniously tie her beacon to Vincent and send him running off into the jungle. While arguing over the matter of her cooperation, Ben shoots her twice in the chest, but she’s got a Kevlar vest on. Sawyer willingly takes the opportunity to beat on Ben.
Sayid and Juliet ambush Miles and Daniel, giving the Losties the upper hand, but they still all run after the beacon signals and flares set off by the Freighter Four (as some are calling them). They find Frank. He saw a cow and landed the helicopter perfectly. It will still work and everyone is happy until the Freighter boys discover that Juliet wasn’t on Flight 815. They reveal that they have come for Benjamin Linus. Ben already knows this though and reveals to Locke and company that he knows all about the Frighter Four because he has a man on their boat.
Flashbacks were split up between the Freighter folk. Daniel as an unexplained good cry when he sees footage of 815 on the ocean floor; Miles talks to dead people and steals their money; Charlotte found a polar bear with a DHARMA collar in Tunisia; and Frank knows the wreckage is fake and was supposed to be flying 815 the day it crashed. Naomi has a posthumous flashback in which we learn that creepy Mr. Abbadon is calling the shots on the whole Freighter operation.
1. Both Kate and Jack are credited for First On Screen points. Yes, Jack was technically on the screen first, but Kate came on screen during the same shot, before any cuts took place and her appearance was very close in time to Jack’s. Some of you may want to rule her out due to technicality, but she was only a second behind Jack, so she gets points too.
2. Jack and Kate get points again for discovering Daniel. Anything shown during the course of an episode counts for points, including scenes and shots we’ve already seen in previous episodes.
3. Only Kate gets points for discovering the box of Hazmat gear in the jungle. Daniel and Jack had already all but walked past it when Kate brought it to their attention. Even though Jack opened the box, he wouldn’t have spotted it unless Kate had spoken up.
4. Everyone in Locke’s band of travelers gets points for discovering Charlotte. Unless we find out later that Locke knew where to find Charlotte, we are assuming that they just happened upon her. Since it was a chance encounter, all eight League characters in the group get the 20 points.
5. Juliet and Sayid each get discovery points for finding Daniel and Miles with Jack and Kate. They had set out to track down Jack and Kate, which they did, but they inadvertently discovered Miles and Daniel at the same time. The discovery of the two freighter men is treated as one discovery, since they were together at the time of discovery.
6. Jack and Kate do not get discovery points for finding Miles. They were led to him by Daniel and the signal beacon on the satellite phone.
7. Nobody gets points for discovering Frank. He alerted everyone to his whereabouts by shooting off the flare gun. That drew Kate, Jack, Sayid and Juliet to him.
8. Sawyer and Ben only suffer injury deductions twice for the episode. The first time is after Ben tries to mess with Sawyer’s head. Sawyer gives a few tugs on the rope to get Ben up and maybe also to cause discomfort, but then he drives his knee into Ben’s midsection. All of this counts as one prolonged injury session.
Later in the episode, Sawyer attacks Ben after he shot Charlotte. He throws some punches and then Charlotte turns out to be alive. There is a pause in the action and we cut away from Locke’s group. When we cut back to them, Sawyer has Ben by the throat up against a tree. We are also counting all of that action as one prolonged injury session. The key here is that it was only Sawyer doing the injuring during all this. Had someone else joined in, Ben would have lost more points.

If you've ever seen the musical Cabaret, then you know that money makes the world go round. Well some way or another money may play a role in Week 3's episode, which is titled "The Economist."
Is the titular economist one of the Losties or is it someone one or more of them will meet? Promos for the episode state that we'll learn the identity of another member of the Oceanic 6. Could they be the economist? Frankly I have no idea and it's driving me crazy! Fortunately, the answer to this question (and hopefully others too!) will be answered very soon.
Check back in next week and see how your team is doing after our third week of official LFL action!
