Well, hopefully you haven't been too confused by me labeling these updates as Week 1, Week 2, etc., since I only post Hiatus League updates every 2 weeks. But in case you were wondering for a whole week when the next update was coming, here it is!
We watched the episode "Special," which wasn't nearly as daunting to score. If you watched along with us and tried to keep score yourself, check below and see how you did. Otherwise sit back and enjoy another one of my mediocre video updates! :-P
If you elect to skip the video, be sure to read through each section below to learn about the important points rulings we made during this episode. Also, pay special attention to a very significant rule change that has had an impact on the scores for not only this week, but for the first two weeks of the Hiatus League.

"Special" (in 500 words or less)
Lions and tiger and bears- oh my! Well, okay, all we’ve got are bears this week, but they are of the polar variety!
We start off with Michael looking for Walt. He finds him throwing knives at trees with Locke and Boone. Needless to say, the recently-instated father isn’t so pleased with his son being encouraged to play with knives, or maybe he’s a closet environmentalist and is mad that they’re stabbing trees. Either way, Michael freaks out, yells at Walt and threatens Locke.
Turns out that Michael just doesn’t know how to communicate with his son and Walt certainly isn’t helping any by being a moody pre-teen kid who doesn’t like his current parental arrangement. Mike decides that nothing perks a kid up like trying to save him from a life of Island creepiness- Michael wants to build a raft. Jack, Sayid and Shannon may want off the Island, but they aren’t quite that desperate yet, as they nonchalantly shoot down Michael’s request for help down in favor trying to pinpoint an obscure location highlighted on one of the French chick’s maps.
Michael decides to go it alone, but with Walt’s help. Junior feels like he’s being punished and ends up sneaking away to chill with Jungle John. This doesn’t go over well with Papa Bear, who threatens to bust our some REDRUM on John’s butt. He orders Walt to comply, which doesn’t work, because the kid goes and gets himself attacked by a polar bear in the middle of the jungle.
Mike and Locke come just in the knick of time and pull Walt to safety. Papa Bear gets all stabby with the polar bear while Walt cries like a kid ought to after being attacked by a hulking beast. The day being saved, Walt and Michael have finally connected. Mike also feels less stabby towards Locke now too. Later that night they bond over the cards that Michael sent to Walt every year, which Walt never saw because his mother was a jerk.
The B-plot to the episode involves beach-warmer favorite, Charlie, and his efforts to track down Claire’s diary. He discovers an entry where Claire says she dreamt about a black rock that she can’t escape from. This titillating bit of info would later go directly to jail, not pass GO, not collect $200, and ultimately never be mentioned again on the show. What a tease, that diary! Claire also turns up in the jungle in the middle of the night, looking freaked out as ever.
The flashbacks show the rocky relationship between Michael and his girlfriend Susan. Michael’s a bum (read: artist) and Susan is a jerk who spirits Walt away to Europe and tries to keep Michael from ever being a part of their son’s life. The joke is on her though, as she dies suddenly and her new husband decided that parenting just isn’t en vogue this year and dumps the kid off with Michael.
1. Characters will now lose points for being on the giving or receiving end of a punch. We’ve ruled that a punch is a premeditated attempt to cause injury and should result in points deductions. That being said, we had to go back and deduct some points from the first two episodes we watched for the Hiatus League:
Exodus Part 2: Sayid loses 10 points for being punched by Charlie. Michael loses 10 points for getting punched and smacked around when the Others storm the raft and abduct Walt.
The Other 48 Days: Sawyer loses 10 points for being punched by Ana-Lucia in the tiger pit.
2. Polar Bear Points are given for anyone who sees the polar bear. Michael and Walt got very close to the polar bear and even slashed at it with the knife, but Locke also gets points for encountering the bear, despite remaining safely up in the tree. You don’t have to touch the thing to get points for encountering it.
3. Michael and Walt both get centricity points for the episode. We ruled that in multi-character flashbacks that you need two or more flashes to get centricity, but Michael and Walt both got centricity because the story revolves around their relationship with each other. Without one of the characters being present in the flashback, the story could not have been told. By getting centricity points, neither Walt nor Michael are eligible for point for appearing in each others’ flashbacks during the episode.
4. Even though Claire is pregnant with him, Aaron does not get points for appearing in the episode. In order for Aaron to get points, he must be out of the womb. He does not get de facto points because he is inside Claire’s pregnant belly. DarkUFO and I both felt this is the right ruling to make on the issue, even though we both have Aaron on our teams. :-P

For those of you who are watching these episodes along with me for the Fantasy League, here’s your next homework assignment:
Be sure to watch The Brig soon, because in two weeks, we’ll be posting the scores for that episode.
The Brig features Locke’s convoluted quest to gain entry into Ben’s inner-circle by way of his father’s death. Those of you with the Season 3 folk on your rosters may be in luck, because your streak of losing points for some of those characters is likely to come to an end with this episode!
However, the episode is pretty heavily skewed action-wise towards only a few characters, so don’t be surprised to see even more moving and shaking in the points standings!
Find out how you stand in the next Fantasy Update.
