DarkUFO Character Cup- Round 1, Matchups 3 & 4 (**Closed**)

After an amazing turnout for the start of the main tournament, Hurley and Mikhail are our first winners. They move on to Round 2, where their opponents will likely put up more of a fight. Neither matchup was anywhere near being close, with Hurley laying claim to the widest margin of victory so far in the Character Cup (perhaps even besting the widest margin from the Episode Cup as well!).

Today's matchups bring you not one, but TWO main characters fighting for their survival against two rather popular flashback characters. Who will join Hugo and Mikhail in the next round? That is for you to decide!

Jin-Soo Kwon
Status: Lostie (Alive)
The son of a poor, Korean fisherman, Jin was determined to have a good job. After meeting and falling in love with Sun, Jin was given a job by her father, doing his dirtywork. Since the crash, life has been difficult for Jin, who is only starting to learn English, barely able to communicate with his fellow survivors.

Noor “Nadia” Abed Jazeem
Status: Flashback Character (Alive)
Nadia grew up in Iraq, where she was a childhood friend and sweetheart of Sayid. As an adult, Nadia was captured by the Republican Guard on suspicions of being an insurgent to the regime. She was interrogated by Sayid, who risked his life to set her free. Since then she has spent time in England and is currently living in California.

Richard Malkin
Status: Flashback Character (Alive)
Richard lives in Australia with his wife and daughter, making a living as a psychic. When Claire came to see him, he told her that she alone must raise her child. He later arranged for her to fly to LA where she would give her child up to adoption. When Mr. Eko investigated his daughter's near-death experience, Malkin admitted he was a fraud.

Jack Shephard
Status: Lostie (Alive)
Jack Shephard was once a talented spinal surgeon at St. Sebastian Hospital in LA. He was married for a time but his wife left him. He also had a very complicated relationship with his father. After the crash of Flight 815, Jack emerged as the leader of the survivors and continues to do what he can to get them rescued.

DarkUFO Character Cup- Round 1, Matchups 1 & 2 (**Closed**)

Congratulations to Ms. Hawking and Leonard Simms, two of the most popular characters in our prelim tournament. They have earned the final 2 open spots in the main tournament.

Speaking of the main tournament, IT'S HERE!! That's right- after two weeks of preliminary action today is the start of the 64-character, single-elimination Character Cup tournament! My non-virtual hat has made it's picks, and although it looks like the first round will be more or less controversy-free, there are a few matchups that ought to spark some good discussion.

Now's the time to rant and rave about the merits of your favorite character! Is Desmond your dude? Think Claire's a cutie? Or perhaps you've got a sweet spot for Sawyer? Let us all know what you think of these characters as we fight our way to the finish!

The first two matchups pit Lost veterans against relative newcomers, featuring a fan favorite or two as a bonus. Cast your votes and talk up your favorites.

Hugo “Hurley” Reyes
Status: Lostie (Alive)
Hurley was once a patient at the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute, where he first heard The Numbers from Leonard Simms, which he used to play the lottery, winning millions. Since the crash of Flight 815, Hurley has helped around camp, had a brief relationship with Libby, ‘built’ a golf course, and tries to keep everyone in good spirits.

Naomi Dorrit
Status: Misc. (Deceased)
Naomi parachuted on to the Island when her helicopter failed. She was part of the crew from the mysterious freighter offshore. Desmond, Jin, Hurley and Charlie helped nurse her back to health. Naomi had a satellite phone, which Jack used to contact her ship. She was killed at the radio tower when John Locke threw a knife in her back.

US Marshal Edward Mars
Status: Flashback Character (Deceased)
Edward was the US Marshal assigned to track down and arrest Kate Austen after she murdered her biological father. After her initial escape from him, Mars spent many months playing cat and mouse with Kate. When Ray Mullen reported Kate to authorities in Australia, Mars finally arrested her. He was injured when Flight 815 crashed and was euthanized by Jack.

Mikhail Bakunin
Status: Other (Deceased)
Once a Soviet soldier, Mikhail was recruited to the Island, where he became the operator of the Flame station for the Others, gathering information on anything they needed from the outside world. He was captured by the Losties when they found the Flame. Mikhail died when he detonated a grenade in an attempt to flood the Looking Glass station.

Congratulations to Aaron Littleton and Steve Jenkins! Your votes during the prelim tournament have given them spots in the main Character Cup tournament, which is only 24 hours away (or less, depending on what time you're reading this). But wait, there were 4 open slots in the main tourney, meaning we've still got 2 spots to fill!

Tonight/today's matchups might not be pleasant for some. What better way to get ready for the main tourney with a little bit of grumbling and hat-cursing?

Ms. Hawking
Status: Flashback Character (Alive)
Ms. Hawking is the mysterious owner of the jewelry shop where Desmond attempted to purchase an engagement ring for Penelope. When Desmond offered to purchase the ring, Ms. Hawking told him that he was not supposed to purchase the ring, but that his destiny was instead to go to the Island, push the button and turn the key.

Dave
Status: Flashback Character (Imaginary)
Dave is a figment of Hurley’s imagination. He appeared as a fellow patient during Hurley’s stay in the mental institution, where he coaxed Hurley into continuing his eating problem and resisting medication and treatment. He also appeared to Hurley on the Island, claiming it was all in Hurley’s head.

Leonard Simms
Status: Flashback Character (Alive)
Leonard was in the US Navy and assigned to a listening station in the South Pacific. There, he heard the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 repeated on a transmission. The numbers would ultimately drive him insane. He was admitted to Santa Rosa, where Hurley would later stay. Hurley picked up the numbers from Leonard.

Rachel Carlson
Status: Flashback Character (Alive)
Rachel is the sister of Juliet Burke. Before Juliet went to the Island, Rachel was being treated for cancer, while also undergoing an experimental fertility procedure run by Juliet. This resulted in Rachel becoming pregnant. She gave birth before Juliet could return from the Island and named her son Julian, after her sister.
